After participating and volunteering in several programs in Altoona, it occurred to me how much B.G. students can contribute to our community. Often our students are given opportunities to interact and empathize with others who may be less fortunate than ourselves in our community. Thus, the reason I developed the Community Service Club. The C.S.C. would be a club open to everyone from grades 7 – 12 grade and would give members a chance to give back to his or her community. Our new club would include a wide range of activities, some of which would even extend into the summer. The C.S.C. would continually grow each year as it expands into more charities and programs to assist.

The C.S.C. would be involved with programs such as the Gloria Gates Foundation; which runs after school Monday through Thursday for the length of the school year, the Miracle League of Blair County; a program that runs through the summer allowing people with disabilities to play baseball, (a sport they would not be able to participate in without this program). Other programs would include the Mountain Lion Backpack program, Joshua House, Blair Senior Services, Veterans Home, etc. This new club could have the ability to host events and fundraisers such as spirit days here at school or create new events for the community to help the community. These activities may give club members an enjoyable time together to participate in fun activities while helping the Altoona community. To join in on the fun and sign up for this club please talk to Ben McCloskey or go to the B.G. Community Service Club Remind page and text the message @bgcomm to 81010.
